Conformity assessment modules

Prepare your technical dossier before your notified body

Module B + C and Module D.1 need a notified body. Module A does not. In every module, your technical documentation is what gets assessed. We build and finalise that dossier on the Gilbert FPR software, so it is ready to be assessed.

Which module is yours?

Module A

You build the dossier and declare conformity yourself. Authorities can ask to see it afterwards.

Module A is available only when the product is made entirely from these ingredient categories:

  • virgin substances and mixtures, but not inhibitors of nitrification, denitrification or urease (CMC 1)
  • fresh crop digestate (CMC 4)
  • food industry by-products (CMC 6)
  • nutrient polymers (CMC 8)
  • industrial by-products as defined in the EU Waste Framework Directive (CMC 11)

Blends of such products are also allowed.

Module A cannot be used for plant biostimulants, inhibitors or high-nitrogen ammonium nitrate fertilisers.

Module B + C

A notified body examines a sample and your dossier, then certifies the product type.

Module B + C is available for products that contain:

  • inhibitors of nitrification, denitrification or urease (CMC 1)
  • plants, plant parts or plant extracts (CMC 2)
  • food industry by-products (CMC 6)
  • micro-organisms (CMC 7)
  • polymers other than nutrient polymers (CMC 9)
  • products derived from animal by-products (CMC 10)

Product types that cannot use Module A, such as inhibitors (PFC 5) and plant biostimulants (PFC 6), can use Module B + C.

Module D.1

A notified body audits your production site and quality system, and keeps auditing it.

Use it for any product, including inhibitors (PFC 5) and plant biostimulants (PFC 6). It is the only route when the product contains:

  • compost (CMC 3)
  • digestate other than fresh crop digestate (CMC 5)
  • recovered phosphate salts, thermal oxidation materials, pyrolysis and gasification materials or recovered high purity materials (CMC 12 to 15)

Not possible for high-nitrogen ammonium nitrate fertilisers, or blends containing 28% or more nitrogen from them.

Those products follow Module A1, which we do not cover.

Notified bodies

A notified body is an independent organisation. An EU country has approved it and told the European Commission about it. In Module B it checks the design of your product and can give a certificate. In Module D.1 it audits your quality system and visits your site.

You choose the notified body and pay its fees directly. Our prices do not include these fees.

Notified bodies we currently work with: Certrust and EFCI.

What we do and do not promise

The notified body decides. We make sure your file is ready to be assessed. We do not guarantee the outcome of an assessment.

You, as the economic operator, stay responsible for the product, its technical documentation and its EU declaration of conformity (Reg. (EU) 2019/1009, Art. 6).

Fixed prices per dossier. See our prices. Notified body fees are not included.

What happens next

  1. Step 1

    Product check

We look at your product type and ingredients and tell you which module is likely.

  2. Step 2

    Scoping call

A 30-minute call about your product, the module and the licence option. You get a fixed quote after the call.

  3. Step 3

    Dossier build

We build and finalise your dossier on the Gilbert FPR software (opens in a new tab). You can view your dossier at all times.

  4. Step 4

    Auditor review

Your notified body or an authority reviews the file. We make sure it is ready to be assessed. With our archiving option, we deliver it to an auditor or authority within 24 hours.

Who you work with
