What is the EU declaration of conformity?

In simple words

The EU declaration of conformity (DoC) is a signed statement. In it the manufacturer says that the product follows the rules. It follows the model in Annex V. The manufacturer signs it and is responsible for it. It must be kept up to date and be translated into the languages that each EU country requires (Article 16).

Manufacturer
The company that makes the product, or has it made, and sells it under its own name or brand.
Authorised representative
A person or company in the EU that the manufacturer appoints in writing to do certain tasks for the manufacturer.
Notified body
An independent organisation that an EU country has approved to check products or quality systems. Some modules need one.
Member State
A country that is part of the European Union. There are 27.

What does it contain?

  • The product: the product, batch or type number.
  • The name and address of the manufacturer and, if there is one, the authorised representative.
  • A statement that the manufacturer is solely responsible for the declaration.
  • A description of the product so it can be traced.
  • The regulation that the product follows.
  • The standards or other specifications that were used.
  • If a notified body took part: its name and the number of the certificate or decision.
  • For a blend: the declarations of the products in the blend.
  • Place, date, name, function and signature.

Updates and translations

Keep the declaration up to date. Translate it into the language or languages that each EU country requires for the countries where you sell the product.

Who is responsible?

With the declaration the manufacturer accepts responsibility that the product follows the rules (Article 16). On request, the manufacturer gives a copy to other economic operators.
